デザインするということ / Designing
今ある出版社の編集さんと、一生懸命絵本化しようとしているお話があります。実現するために、魅力的な表紙をデザインしようということになったのですが、私にはイマイチデザインセンスっていうもんがない。
書き文字とかあこがれる割に、自分でやってみるとかなりダサイ。
自分のセンスだけに頼っていては、いかん！勉強せな！と思い、ネットでいろいろ昭和のポスターやパッケージなどを検索し始めて...唖然としました。
Macもない時代にデザインされたものって、デザイナーの情熱がガンガン伝わってくるのです！もちろん現代のデザインにもすごいな〜と思うものはたくさんあるけど、デザインする側の体温が感じられるのは、コンピュータ発達前の気がする。（素人考えでは）
結局バンバン出てくるずば抜けたタイポグラフィーやデザインに「う〜ん、ぐむ〜、うひ〜、へ〜、うわ〜」など感心はするものの、いざ自分でも同じ感覚でデザインしてみようと思うと、やっぱりダサクなってしまうのでした。とほほ。
I have a story which my editor and I have been trying to publish. (But the marketing people haven't approved yet) To persuade the marketing guys, we need an attractive cover for the book.
One big difference between Japanese publication and the UK publication is that Japanese books are usually published just in that country, while the UK publisher tend to seek partnerships with publishers in other countries. So the cover design can be a little freer in Japan. For instance, hand drawn typography is heavily used for titles. I've aways wanted to try that too, so I created my own typography for the title of the book....and this was a big mistake!
That made me realise I definitely don't have any sense of design...
I searched for retro designs through the internet to learn what designing is.Mmmm....how come all the pre-computerised design is so stylised? I can feel the passion of the designers too.And the use of colour is something! Mmm!! I'm inspired! I feel I can design a good cover! Yes, I can!
And I drew the cover rough, and sighed again...!Ah!
